See, I told you, it is a distraction designed to fracture society. How many people actually know hoemsexuals who want to marry? They are a tiny minority in themselves and it is precious few who ever form life long relationships but their highly contentious agenda is being rammed down our throats and we go on page after page citing religious views and liberal views and red neck views about something that is really not that important.
Does it ever occur for anyone to have a little shufty at the money behind these campaigns. Do yourselves a little Google seaching and you will start to realise why crap like bonking cowboys and gay marriage is a little more than meets the eye.
But where is the democracy in somebody standing up and saying elect me I'll do this, and then doing something exactly opposite ?
For sure things change and politics and decision making has to adapt to those changes (and hopefully stay ahead of the changes) but in 2004 the ALP actively supported changing the marriage act to exclude same sex couples. They took that policy to the last election. It wasn't a 'do nothing' it was 'no to same sex marriage'. Now, mid term they change it. Nothing wrong in changing your mind or an organisation changing its stance ...
but if they take, or support, a vote in parliament on changing the act back, BEFORE the next election then it is just another example of lying to the elctorate.
If they hold off on bringing it before parliament, go to the next election telling the voters what their stance is, get elected to form Government, bring a bill before parliament, have it enacted then fair enough, that is democracy at work.
Not having a go at the ALP, I am sure every party of every persuation is equally guilty of it, but isn't it fraud or something ? at best I can't see it being the best example of democracy.
