I say Perth is rooted. Absolutely rooted.
If you are a narrow minded and insular Perth-ite, offended by my assessment and don't think it is then I challenge you -
find a hotel room for tomorrow night, for 3 nights somewhere in Perth, for an amount of money that isn't obscenely ridiculous.
Options seem to be :
Rottnest Lodge (maybe Tent-land as well ?)
Freo backpackers 8 person dorm room (atleast it is only $30 per night)
or pay > $1,500 for 3 nights in Crowne Plaza or Holiday Inn
Nothing in an entire city for normal people to stay the night. In fact probably nowhere in an entire state.
I agree.
I actually feel sorry for the Balinese.
When we find it cheaper and easier to fly there and holiday than going for a holiday in Monkey Mia or some other Sh!thole in the desert in our own back yard it is a sad state of affairs.
City Planning is a Joke
Train networks get you nowhere you actually want to go.
Steaks at the Pub cost $40
But hey, at least it's not Sydney. ![]()

Where exactly did you want to stay ? ... I can provide one far cheaper in a hotel in a seaside resort town for you ![]()

TIME IS always a factor in most things you do.
If you want it tomorrow Ill charge you premium price , if you want it 3 weeks from now Ill hunt around find the best price ,know some who might have a special comeing up blah blah...
this applies to all things
Hotel accommodation
Airline tickets
cars
plumbing
cooking oil
ooh err.
im thinking of moving there in 6 months!!
tell me you can get a parma and pot somewhere for $12 and the weathers better than melbourne!!!![]()
parma and pint $20 at our local, much better feed and prices at the "The Mighty Quinn" a bit further down the road.
only problem can be finding a parking spot sometimes- and there is lots of parking spaces.

Simple economics mate - the miners will pay the bills for the hotels so the prices are set to what the market will bear.
(my gf used to do this job for Perth Adelaide and Melbourne for Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, so I know about this stuff).
Perth is an awesome place and it works a treat, as long as you don't try and do blatantly stupid things like travel on certain roads at certain times of day (or get a hotel room in the middle of town in the middle of the week). I love it.
Just because you can't afford to compete with BHP for a hotel room does not mean this town is rooted.

Ha ha, you think Perth is rooted... come to Sydney to have rooted properly defined for you.
You won't even be able to get in to Sydney, Delhi traffic is better.
I went (tried) for a kite yesterday > left work @ 16:00hrs > 1hr later I'm 300m down the road with no way of turning round... took me 2hrs to turn around and go home.
I was watching the trees sway with the 17kt NE, while I was stuck.
Do you know how that feels!
Every single day is gridlock in Sydney... it's starts at 06:00hrs and ends at 21:00hrs... on weekends TOO... that's rooted.
Perth is great!
1. Wages are great, the mines pay so well that to keep good people in Perth employers will pay really good money.
2. My property is worth a fortune. My rentals have never been vacant or advertised - 1 afternoon with a hand drawn sign in the front yard and I have heaps of applicants.
3. There are parks and play equipment all over the place for the kids. (at least 4 within a 2 min walk from me and I live 1km from the city)
4. The fishing / diving / surfing is brilliant and easily accessable, with everything from herring and crabs in the river for the kids to offshore sailfish, macks ect and everything in between.
5. You can buy a carton on Heineken for $40 and a kg of prawns for $14. I love Sunday arvos.
6. Traffic is fine, everyone winges about it but compared to the rest of the world it's nothing. Live in LA for a month and commute to work. That's traffic.
7. Yum Cha in Northbridge on Sunday morning is cheap and much better than any of the Sydney restaurants I've been to.
8. Yeah the hotel situation sux and really needs to be addressed.
9. Heaps of great schools, there is a brilliant community attitude at my daughters primary - everyone catches up down at the parks on a regular basis.
10. Lots of great holiday destinations close by - from Rotto to Busso to Jurien.
I'm only 31 and have lived in Perth all my life. I've travelled lots of Europe and a bit of Asia. Only been to Sydney & Adelaide a few times. I can't think of a better place on earth I would rather live and raise my girls than Perth. If there is I haven't seen it yet.
No, Perth isn't rooted. I think Perth is a wonderful place. Never been there but I've heard all about it. Fantastic place!
In fact, why don't all you Sydney-ites go there and get the hell off my waterways.
