One-pump is INDUSTRY driven planned-obsolescence.
It's an evil plan to deliberately rat-f#ck a perfectly simple thing like a kite.
It limits the kite's useful life and tempts many crew to prematurely purchase new gear.
Rather than throwing good money at expensive shop-repairs on failed inflation systems ...
crew may opt to quit the piece-of-sh1t and just buy a new kite in a bag.
One-pump makes a kite heavier, more expensive to make, and more complicated to repair.
One-pump does not make a kite fly better.
One-pump does not make a kite any safer.
One-pump must die.
*One-pump was originally invented for snowkiting.
I am not sold on the idea either but have never owned one yet so what are the main issue's that make you feel so strongly?

As far as repairs are you talking about the rubbing of the tubes on the kite canopy ?
You could just buy a set of values and get a heat gun on them and swap them out once and if you do a good job will be just like factory???

If they got rid of one pump I would stop kiting. Can't believe there was a time when it didn't exist... man that sucked.

You probably argue the same way about pulleys: Unsafe, breakable (at least in theory), more weight..
The kite might tow my 83kgs around, but the drag caused by a 50g one pump system has for sure a huge impact!
One pump on slingy kites at least in my opinion makes it easier to correctly install a leading edge bladder without twists... What can't one pump do? thats the real problem.
Another problem easily solvable with mathmatics. One pump has never posted lameass crap on the internet.

I'm with blown away ....1 pump compressor, lines laid out before kite inflated .....love the 1 pump.
i haven't deflated my struts for 4 years now. the kite still has life in it. i doubt it makes the kites life shorter having one pump
what else do you want slave? you'll probably want the leashes to come without QR like they use to too! Stop buying rubbish kites and everything will last a bit longer
As heartbreaking as it is to have a hose pop off and your entire kite deflate in mid-ocean, i still think one pump is awesome and i wouldn't buy a kite without it.
One pump rocks. It makes absolutely no difference in repairs.The only **** one pump kites that were a pain were the 04' slingshot black valves and the 08' Flexifoil. This was a valve delamination issue and would have been a pain regardless of one pump or not.

*I have had original octanes two yrs, both main bladder gave some grief after about 18 months, all fixed under warranty, no lost kiting time. The problem here was not a design issue but a manufacturing issue and could happen with any valve, not just a one pump.

I had more trouble getting the stupid ball to drop into the valves on the little struts than I have had with one pump. But then again, I own Naish kites and the connection between the leading edge bladder and the struts is not a series of external hoses.
The obsolescence of a kite is a function of how often you use it, how hard you thrash it and how well you look after it.

Totally agree with you my man. Why engineer multiple points of failure into a design?
Kites get put through a lot of abuse (well mine do
) so they should be as robust and light as possible. One pump totally flies in the face of this reasoning.
One pump is really convenient right up until you have a problem with one of them then the leak tracing is a nightmare. Add that to having to disconnect up to five inflation points on the bladder and then reconnecting them without a leak = pain in the ass.
Personally I am actively searching for brands that have multiple inflation points. My next kite will come from one of those.
One pump was one of the industries best inventions.
If you have a problem with any part of it, just buy that one small piece and your on your way.
As easy to repair as any other.

For the record on my previous kites I had to pump up 7 seperate struts and then LE and watched in envy as others would plub in a pump away as their kite unfolded perfectly. It actually did save significant set up time, spesh if I blew out a stopper ball on any of the 7 struts.
I now have one pump kites and couldn't be @rsed going back to seperate. The joiners are external and aside from unlipping a cable tie that holds the sheath in posi they wouldn't be any more difficult to repair as they actually do have individual (optional) stoppers also.
They add a pooofteenth to the weight admitedly, but then i ended up with 3 strut kites so have saved I would estimate 400% less weight by that choice.
Use clips to isolate each strut (bought mine for the princely summ of $5.00) and wait for a while after pumping to get full pressure into the struts, before clipping them off. In my case i pump up on the grass, then let the kite sit on the warm sand until after I have rolled out lines etc - then clip off. Only the fanatical and finicky would be able to get it set up any better.
With clips on each strut you are vitually as safe as any seperate inflated set-up (which as poor rely rightfully points out - sucks date).![]()
Wouldn't touch an internal one pump with a barge pole tho. Can't believe they even made it onto the market. Trouble.![]()
Exactly how much do you think one-pump affects kite performance?
I would hazard a guess next to zero.
Lets take for example the Naish system where everything is internal,
the only con to performance is maybe the kite is say 50 g heavier.
I am not sure that 50g really makes that much difference when you see the amount of screen printing on some kites.
So really it comes down to:
possible major one/two time inconvenience to repair it, although most external systems are generally not much harder to repair vs the standard multi-point
VS
Convenience every session in set up and pack down time.
