There is a small villiage in Africa on the edge of a game reserve that is setup to aid conservation of the local wildlife. Over the time period of a couple years, there were over 20 locals mauled by a single lion in particular, that had developed an acquired taste for them, it was finally killed by a local, who watched his wife and I think 2 kids get killed, and his wife eaten down to her hip line, the lion left, he laced her remaining corpse with poison, the same lion came back and was killed by the poison the next day..... My point is, if there is one individual out there killing "us" something should be done about it, if a few die so a few can live, what's the big deal ? They have no natural preditors, and we don't hunt them because they are endangered?
We are reaping the benefit of protection. It is not natural for the GWS not to be hunted, man has hunted them as long as we have existed, we are now at a stage that all those protected GWS babies have matured and are hungry. Its only going to get worse.
ya kill more sharks!! there only on the brink of extension because we slaughter them in the thousands every year. But you go ahead take your revenge on an animal that only kills for food. Go ahead kill it for revenge!! Where the f'ing blood thirsty animals here!! Yes we may very well have to kill this shark to save another tragic death but have the intelligence to understand thats its a horrible thing to have to do!! Its an innocent creature that has no hate for humans. The species was around long before we took our first steps. And morons like some of you lot show just how fu'd up evolution can be!
Sorry to the many decent people on this forum, i definitely don't mean you.
And one more thing, read a f'ing book once and awhile Mask and Pumpnjump, you show your ignorance with every post.
PS sharks scare the **** out of me. But I am meant to be scared, the sea is there domain, they are apex predators after all.
It will not make me a better man to kill them in cold blood. Im a better man because i wouldn't.
Looks like were not even safe in boats anymore!. Poor little innocent creature!

Hi Peeps,
So much fear and hysteria when we are talking about shark attacks and great whites, that it's easy to get carried away and emotional. I'm no greeny wanting to give sharks a big hug, but I also don't think that we should be hunting down and killing sharks indiscriminately.
Sharks live in the ocean, this is a fact and it isn't going to change. If you choose to go in the ocean, then you raise the probability of getting bitten. If the thought of getting bitten and dying freaks you out too much, simply don't go in the ocean. Your chances of being eaten by a shark on the land are pretty remote.
If "the" shark responsible for a death is immediately spotted in the vicinity, then maybe that one should be culled, but only if it is proven to be the one responsible. I am going on the prospect of perhaps one shark being responsible for more than one of these attacks and developing a pattern of behaviour.
Killing lots of sharks wont stop the problem and isn't cool. I believe in Karma. I surf, SUP, Kite, swim, sail and freedive spearfish in the ocean with the sharks, and often see them, but we share the ocean with them and they are graceful in the water and an important part of the marine ecosystem, and I don't want to see them harmed, nor would I want retribution on the shark if I happen to end up a victim.
Live and let live, if you can't handle the risk, stay out of the water until December where your chances of an interaction with a GW is greatly reduced .... but not eliminated. There is ALWAYS a risk. Accept it, or move on.

I went for a surf down at Brighton beach on Saturday morning.
We wonder why the sharks come in close.
We counted 17 boats all chumming up with oil slicks out from where we were.
You could smell the fishy smell from where we were, imagine what the sharks are thinking!! ![]()
The problem with this argument is all the uneducated idiots that think they have a clue to what's going on. And for this reason the debate is only going to turn out as successful as our boat people solution!
