ok so was there anything down there today???
I am really hopeing to hit the surf at some stage this weekend.
I started windsurfing in 1978 (as a teenager) and I think ever since about 1979 I've been hearing the same "it never blows like it used to" stuff.![]()
The funny thing is that so often we see people saying there's no wind, and we look out and see longboards planing, Lasers and other dinghies heeling, and yachts looking for a smaller headsail. The problem is the breeze windsurfers expect and buy gear for, not the breeze we get - in my humble opinion, anyway.
A year or two ago we had one day of 18-22 knot sea breezes (confirmed by the bureau weather station 200m away) and even better the next day, and both days there were guys whining about the "crappy" wind. I have to say I suspect that the problem is just that people get gear for top end speed and also just going back and forth in flat water does get boring after a while, but some people blame the lack of thrills on the weather.
I'm currently training on LAser dinghies, a couple of years ago it was fast catamarans, and it always seems to be windy, not light.
Ithink my prob is ive put on 15kg since 10 years ago
.
I have to disagree with Chris as the weather is defiantly different from 10 years ago. Here is Brisbane we have not had a real cold winter for years.
We don’t get our cold westerly’s like we use too, lucky to get 2 a year these days. SE use to blow 3 or 4 days when the fronts come though now only 1.
I cannot complain too much though ive got gear that’s covers me in most conditions 10knots and up. But it would be nice if the systems went back to what they were 10 years ago.

I have been windsurfing now for over 20 years, I learn't in down at Currumbin. I can always remeber having long periods of poor to no wind prior to Christmas. Then once Christmas pases haveing a few months of good NE winds...then at Easter we would get a big change to southerly and usually a big swell sometime around then.
I am not sure if things are so different now, but I do know when I was learning I used to hit the water everyday no matter what the wind was like, maybe thats why I think it's worse...I have just got more picky (not to mention weight about 15kg more)
.......went a whole week without a sail last week
so yesterday out of desperation got out me old formula board and 9m Retro
was about 5kn not even the kites were out.
The further I got out more wind around 15kn 2k out
had an absolute ball for about an hour then the ass dropped out of it and slogged home
but it just shows ya have to have the gear for the conditions
(beats wishful thinking anyhow)
it's currently blowing 4.5 knots in Manly harbour(qld) the only formula that might get going is E=MC2...???

U might have to wait for the afternoon seabreeze
Try this for a formula....
Your 4.5 kn + seabreeze 5kn = 9kn which = planing(on a formula board)
