www.smh.com.au/national/jessica-watson-sets-sail-20091018-h2gi.html

For better or for worse she has set sail. Seems like last weeks 30 knots westerlies delayed the start a bit. Hopefully she won't encounter too many strong winds out at sea.

Good luck.

"While her daughter was busy preparing for yesterday's long-awaited departure, Julie Watson snuck aboard the 34-foot yacht Ella's Pink Lady to hide treats to make her daughter smile when things get tough at sea.

"Little cards, notes, a T-shirt, a cuddly bear, a hair bandanna, smelly pouches, anything I could think of," Julie said."

My bet is she's actually hiding at home in a box.

also observed is the lack of commentary about the commercial nature of this trip. Notice how the branding people have not missed an opportunity. Every hat, spray jacket, boat siding is well endowed with sponsor logos.
Call me cycnical or a cab, but I think it's a devious and clever strategy to put a cute, blonde teenager in a pink boat and send her round for a dangerous adventure.

It's Marketing 101: sassy sexy sailor, hyped pre-event launch, drama fuelled preparation...

This is a clever marketing exercise. The girl in the boat is almost irrelevent, until it comes to tears.

Where are the people from EB, Panasoninc, Channel Tin, and numerous others ?? Will they give an endoresement here ? no way. they are having a bet each way by laying low until the plaudits are piled on. THEN we will hear from them for sure.

umm yeah-did you think they were doing from the goodness of their hearts?

Life lesson 101-cigarette companies dont really have any interest in sports, except to get you to buy their gaspers. The way to do that is to have big signs/hats/ clothes with their logo in your face.
Is it a coincidence that whenever a football coach gives a press conference there is a backing board with their logos on to fill the screen? Except when its a sex scandal etc.

But I agree that those secondary sponsors would be foolish to make a song and dance just yet...

my best wishes to her, even though I am not all for it (the type of record being set that is)

Are you guys sure she is cute? I mean i'm a 26 year old hormone filled male and when i look at her on tv and she smiles i see a picket fence with every second paling missing. A nice girl she may be a nice body she may have but i don't see hotness...

I have a theory that i will share with you all... its copyright though!

Everyone is gorgeous in their life for only a short period of time say 10-15 years. Some people are cute as a baby but get uglier as they age... some are good at early and middle age but were ugly kids...

On that basis I suspect Jessica Watson hasn't reached her short period of hotness yet...

media alert: cab 1 off the rank to cash in on said marketing 101: Channel TIN just now, "LIVE via skype"...cross to the boat, replete with even more sponsor logos in the bg !!! 1 minute of inane (and typical) stupid questions. The answers explain the erratic course track from last night zig zaggin ...the winds and currents aren't favourable i.e. north going...unfortunately the AIS is off again...Last position:2009-10-18 10:35:43 UTC (19h47m ago)....The tracker website is fantastic showing ships all about her so there's plenty of people to chat too... GO JESSIE... say afloat over those 10 metre waves just ahead...

more on the commercialmarketingconspiracytheory..... from her blog:"I've also been kitted out with the full range of Ella Baché skin care products, and to begin with, I'll admit to being a little intimidated by all those tubes and bottles! But armed with a manual and plenty of great advice I think that keeping my skin in top condition will be good fun..."..

need more proof ??

Well what a fasinating story this is as we go along.
An dept investigation says that she failed to see the big blob on her radar screen minutes before she went to sleep [ for the night, teenagers go to bed early get up fresh ????]. Ding ...Ding, the bell should have been ringing here, " nine bells and all is well " the bell of self preservation. So is it technical overload similar as to how young boys drive cars as if on a computer screen........ jesue...its hard to text while writing this.!!!!
So the powers that be, arranged to take all [Family and promoters] on board
whopping great international freighter and show them a thing or two about boat
sailing and operation, and the vision from the other perspective. They also provided some hours of tuition about safety at sea in boats, basic seamanship. It is said and reported that she is now better prepared with her newly acquired knowledge.
Maybe when you come back do one driving your car down sessemy street. That will be a follow up best seller.
Good luck Jessica, hope you obtain yore goal. You will have to return a
better woman, with a realistic future. There will be a line of Blokes a nautical mile long waiting to make you acquaintance, and help you make up for all those cold lonely fearful times upon the high seas. ....can't fathom that one out!!!!!

My 4 y.o has never ridden a bike without training wheels.
I get him on a normal bike and tell him to go ride in the street. There may be traffic, there may be not.

People on a cycling website advise against it.

But I do it anyway.

People criticise me, and my son, for doing it.

Is that ***ed up vibes?
