This caught my curiosity; are any businesses open on sunday now? Restaurants, or fast food types? Just curious, have not heard of this law before.
I have the opposite opinion, it seems that 7 day trading has MANY pitfalls things like family life, kids sporting events, etc. I believe people only have a certain amount of $$$ to spend, spend in 6 or 7 days its still the same.
The push for 7 day trading normally comes from big business to drive up their share of the market knowingly driving out small family businesses. Often it is said it will give more jobs... wrong they just run on the same staff rostered over the 7 days, and then the companies try to eliminate penalty rates by saying all days are now equal.
You will never see government departments, banks, post offices, etc open 7 days.... why? (They want their family time)
So those living in WA your lucky enjoy the time with your family, your not going to die if you cant get to the shops for 1 day.
Damn it ,,, there goes my excuse for not working overtime cause I need to go to the shops

If you've worked hospitality you will know.. over time, penalty rates and special occasions with the family dont exist.. Of course neither do your rights as your employed as a casual..yet you'll do full time hours and work every weekend and public holidays and are expected to fully tow the management line when it beckons.
Of course I realise that it goes with the territory in the above case
....But do you really want to apply that sort of pressure to every other low paid semi skilled person trying to make ends meet for their familys...
Sounds like it would put more pressure on mental health than make good economic sense.

If you value weekends with your families, protest now.
Since QLD got 7 day trading, a weekend when someone isn't working doesn't ever happen.
Penalty rates are under pressure and it's a rare thing for both parents to get to kid's footy at the same time.
Good if you, your family, sailing/surfing buddies and friends all don't work in retail.
Also good if you happen to be the owner of a retail business or chain that has employees to work the nightime hours.
I always think of the slapstick teen movie 'Mall Rats' when talk of deregulating retail trading hours starts. It was about Teens living out their everyday lives at the same Mall.
if you think our trading hours are rooted try the greek islands.
you have to factor in seista, and then some days they decide not to open back up after siesta. but i'ts almost impossible to work out which days.
Tobacco shops are the only things open on sundays.
Oh then the general strikes need to be considered.
It took me over a month to buy a sim card coz everytime i when to the main town all the shops were closed.

This puzzles me.
What YOU do is YOUR choice. If WA had longer trading hours, the hours YOU choose to shop (or do what ever it is YOU want to do) are YOUR choice.
If you want to spend time with family, sport etc on the weekend then do so... If someone wants to shop on a weekend, I am not going to tell them they can't. I am also not going to tell people they can't buy fords, or wear flanny, or support collingwood... or breed... It is not my business.
Many against extended hours use arguments about what others are going to do, and what they should be doing instead (i.e. spending time with family)... C'mon, it's not like the Sunday shoppers are masturbating in church! Or, are you more worried about yourself

Living in Sydney where most shops are open on Saturday arvo and Sunday plus being old enough to rememberer when this was not so I'm in two minds about extended trading hours. It would be great if there was a bit of time for people to break away from the shops for a while. It seems to be that we are dragged into this work shop consumerist mentality. However I remember when shops shut at noon on Saturday and there was a mad rush to buy enough food for the rest of the weekend.
When in Perth it was quite nice though to have a quiet day on Sunday. But there were some shops open in the town centre. I think that's the best compromise.
It would be interesting to know if shop rents are comparable between shopping centers open on Sunday or not.
Once this is brought In it's never going to be revoked.

Big shopping hours probably help more people to get some work experience
and thus money [job] as retailers need to have more staff to option while the
ones that want to have a day off, with their family's and friends etc do so. This
is creating jobs for boat people other than cabbys 
. It also
provides entertainment area for skate boarders, and opportunities for robbers
to graba bit of cash, and continue in their chosen car rears
Chances are those complaining about trading hours have never had to actually work in retail (past the age of 17) or juggled their own study, family, life whilst working odd hours that reatail dictates.
Same for having half day shifts spread over 7 days (coz it suits the multi national boss) just to earn a crust. It aint fun, but hey - who gives a fek about the next bloke right? You've got $$$ to spend and don't care if the overheads from increased wages etc push prices even higher and fek the rest of us. Spend away 
Wanna ensure Coles/Woolies get a complete duopoly at last? Then vote for extended trading hours.. but FFS don't whinge about being bent over a barrel by Moles and Foolies later on sheeple.[}:)]
A decent compromise would be to just have Thursday and Friday nights as later opening. 7 days makes no sense and will cost us big-time.
Colonoscopy Barnett wants coz he is being lobbied by the equivilent of Burke/Grills and similar characters of fine stature. There was a referendum (remember?) it didn't get up.. move on.
Like daylight saving, I think we should be more inline with the eastern states IMO.
I, like alot of people work from 7.30am - 5pm and I generally eat luch at my desk while I work. To be able to go to the shops between 6 & 7pm every day would be great for me.
+ more hours = more jobs = less unemployment
It does not affect me personally..so at this point I don't care.
I don't shop on a Saturday or a Sunday or Thursday late night..
But what does give me the run's is...
The Extended Trading Hours referendum was a "NO" vote.
So the money spent and the VOTE meant nothing to this idiot
running our state...who also says...James Price Point is just another piece of dirt
that no one care about....

A lot of interesting opinions out there, but after all is said and done it's been voted on. Three times now, like dls...
All you need now is some politician to introduce it for a trial period so HE can shop when it suits him/her.
I don't think that it is a good idea. Having said that I have occassionally done the weekly shop at Woolies in Freo on Sunday afternoon because I haven't had time to do so during the week / Saturday morning. The convenience factor is there - but be prepared to pay for it.
Extended hours is just an excuse for the big retailers to squeeze out the smaller guy. There doesn't seem to be any competition here in the West, some just expect more of the same, just that you can shop on Sundays.
There was a referendum on this and there was a No vote. I suppose the clown that is running the State will decide that the last daylight saving poll meant nothing as well.
It isn't all about dollars / cents and economic arguments.
People aren't going to buy more stuff - just will have more time available to buy the same amount of stuff. Result = the smaller, family run businesses get squeezed out , the consumer gets less choice, and the big guys get more market share. Sounds like a bad result to me.
As my shopping centre is always slow between about 12pm and 3pm
lets close for a siesta and trade late... we use to do that in Broome
