Lost...
Sorry for butting in on your argument with Funky (vile West Coast supporter he is
)
Change happens, fair enough. But it seems strange that you attack the WA mind set concerning people from the Eastern States to support your arguement(s).
Open the shops up, extend trading hours and let us all pretend what a sophisticated group of consumers we are. In the meatime pay through the nose, wonder why you and are your friends are so tired and stressed, and why the quality of life you once had is gone.
Profits of large corporations are a function of the number of shopping hours and spending for instant gratification. Maybe there is resistance because we feel that our quality of life in WA is being threatened, and that we don't buy the argument that tells us otherwise.
Geez that Diver makes sense... for a vile Docker supporter.![]()
Problem over here IMO is the transient mining employees earn unrealistic coin, compared to those that live here and work outside mining, (ie the majority of us) and spend like there is no tomorrow on everything in sight and then some.![]()

It is those temporarily cashed up folks - out of touch with the reality of the majority - that demand 24 hr consumer indulgence and it is they that lost the referedum on extended trading.
Yet, here we are with extended trading foisted onto us by a govt lobbied by big business and ignoring the majority view plus WA retail/primary industries.
Bloody ordinary IMO.![]()
And... I think I have more than spent my 2c as usual. ![]()
One day my foil hat came loose and next thing I know I was euphoric with a flouride rush.. at that point extended trading made complete sense. ![]()
I checked seabreeze after few days' and I'm surprised this is still going on ![]()
I predict this thread will eventually have more posts & pages then funny images, top jokes & chemtrails combined, crash the server and will be deleted by admins as "politics related thread". This will start another great conspiracy/controversy debate which will divide seabreeze users more than kitesurfing vs windsurfing ever could (and crash the server three times in the process).
Give it up people! It's happening in few weeks and there is nothing you can do about it. ![]()
The only thing that can save us is early arrival of regular seabreeze, I think we all need a good dose of that!
Mandurah gunning for longer shopping hours than Perth ...
www.oneperth.com.au/2010/10/17/mandurah-demands-longer-shop-hours-than-perth/
This shopping hours thing is a joke.
Get the government out of my life.
Extended shop trading hours to 9pm on weeknights have come into effect in Perth.
New laws that came into force on Monday give general retail shops, including major grocery stores, the option to open later during the week.
Western Australia's shop trading hours have long lagged behind the more liberal extended opening times in other states.
Premier Colin Barnett and Commerce Minister Bill Marmion announced the changes at a shopping centre at suburban Mount Hawthorn on Monday.
Mr Barnett said the changes reflected his government's determination to reform WA's shopping laws to allow more choice, flexibility and competition.
"Business will now have greater freedom to respond to particular needs of their customers and won't be locked into outdated shopping hours," he said.
Mr Marmion said the government was determined to keep pace with changes in urban lifestyles and working hours in the Perth metropolitan area.
Maybe you Perfians can quiz the pollies about this on Q&A tonight (ABC 9:35 pm AEDST). It's being beamed live from there and hosts a bevvy of WA pollies, including premier Colin Barnett.
Somebody please go to the studio and give Julie Bishop an unending death stare for the rest of us. I swear that woman could have a starring role in V as one of the reptile aliens. HEY!!! DO YA THINK ![]()

Wish I was in the audience tonight.[}:)]
Have done a bit of homework and found a farmer's markets in reasonable reach for semi-regular trips. Before long they will regular trips to the markets - especially with the steady decline in independants (that are required to pay weekend staff penalties - unlike Moles and Foolies).
everyone get their tin foil hats on quickly .
All this talk of people's family lives being affected well i call bull**** . Everyone of you who has pulled that line are you directly affected by this or are you just hopping on the DLS bandwagon and not wanting change in perth .
Personally i am all for it . I don't have time to shop on a weekend as i am either kiting, boating or something else equally valuable with my time and i work long hours . So if i can shop at 9pm on a tuesday ****ing awesome .
Most of the anti arguments seem to be based around industrial relations and competativeness issues
Ignoring whether I agree or disagree with extended trading hours or whether I think it will cause suffering to the employee or small business operator I can't help but think that worker protection and anti-competativeness should not
be controlled through the right to operate your business at certains times.
Should they not be controlled through IR legislation and the ACCC ?
Is it not like controlling speeding through a tax on petrol ? The faster you drive the more petrol you burn so more tax will slow people down, but not a very good way of doing it. I kinda think that retail trading hours legislation is the same.
coles online.
Have only been in a supermarket about 10 times in over a year.
Someone goes around the store picks out your food and then drops it off to your house, they even deliver a carton of cold beers for you all for $13.
Ours came tonight at 7pm was in the cupboards by 7.10pm.
Get with the times who needs to waste time at the shops lol
Since the referendum on trading hours was a waste of time, can we do the same with the Daylight Savings one too?
Time to put DLS through the parliament and ride rough shod over those pathetic DLS "No" voters![]()
Well I couldnt care less, longer shopping or not , sounds like most here are wage earners , have to be there at a designated time and cant leave until the time bell rings .
Have been a subcontractor all my life , and would't have it any other way, can arrive when I please and go whenever I want {will never forget the day at work in Gero when the wind TURNED OFFSHORE !!! AT 11am , packed up and had an awsome day ![]()
} I could NEVER work on the timeclock system,
as for the extra cost in allowing the extra shopping time , like I really care --- not.
Half an hour extra during the week and I have it all covered.(not that I need to shop)
An old macadonian mate of mine once said (with an accent ) boy,,,,, the more you put,, the more you get, but I guess that doesn't apply to wage earners![]()
I truely love the freedom my job gives me![]()
and wouldn't have it any other way.
If the importance of being able to shop when you want and you can't , change something in your life.![]()
I usually agree with doggie coz he says boobs, but mark is right, extended shopping hours are giving more money to ceo's and share holders at the expense of employees. You should think of this the next time you hear about unionists trying to get a pay rise. Public or private somewhere up the ladder a person is trying to get paid more and they dont care about you.
