I think we as consumers are just plain lazy.
We want it all under one roof at the cheapest possible prices. So long as the fruit n veggies look good it must be good. Plus we want the convenience of being able to go at any time to these places to satisfy our demand.
**** coles and woolies i say. I refuse to give them any of my dollars. I prefer to perhaps pay a little more and give to my local fishmonger, local butcher local bottle shpop etc. As time has gone by they now know who i am and even offer me a couple of quid off, better cuts free bones for the dog etc etc etc
Got my weekly supply again this morning and cooked up organic free range eggs on organic bread for breakfast with a side of fruit salad. yum yum
all fresh all in season all ****ing delicious ![]()
Stop telling other people how to live their lives. If you want to shop at markets, avoid coles and woolies, and not shop on weekends then go ahead and do it and shut the **** up.
For the rest of us, let us have the ability to shop when we want to. People don't shop at coles and woolies because they are forced to, they do it because they choose to. Why should shops like IGA be favoured by the government. If they want to survive, then they should have to compete. And for all those that think IGA is a small company, I just got back from a holiday in the USA where yes, I saw many IGA grocery shops.
It's so much easier to eat healthy, when you get home from work at 6pm and have time to nip into coles to pick up some food to cook for dinner. Without the grocery chops open, the temptation for fast food is much more.
Stop telling me I should be more organised to do all my shopping once a week. If its good for you then good for you.
Let me be.
nobody should be forced or cajoled into working sundays, if a store wants to trade then management should give up their weekends and come in to man the floor.
and dave is right- penalty rates for weekends are being eroded.
thats ok you dont have to work sunday... or monday or tuesday or wednesday and your late night shopping shift is gone so you gonna have to pay for daycare that day while you do the day shift...
but dont worry I wont sack you...
I will just not roster you hours as you are a casual!!! so you wont get any holidays when i finnally get you to quit and employ some one who doesnt make such public acts of defiance who will work when i tell them and we will all be happy.
insert sarcasm and rather difficuly industrial relations conundrum here
Been there done that..
Welcome to the new millenium WA...just think you might be grown up enough to have daylight savings soon (que horrifed gasps and talk back callers rabbiting on about faded curtains and upset cows)....![]()
I'm sorry I thought this was the fool o' the week thread. Oh wait..
FTR I shop at independants mostly and occasionally at the Big ugly twins also. The nearest markets to me are Subi and they aint what they used to be frankly.
So in a few years when Moles and Follies have complete and utter control of supermarkets and grog (in case you don't realise Dan murphy's, BWS, Liquor Barons, Lickerland, Vintage Cellars etc etc are ALL owned by the 2 fugly twins) are completely run by the fuglies - at which point they engineer price strauctures (illegally as they have been found to do in the past) and there is zero competition, I just hope you enjoy paying absolutely TOP dollar for cr@p Eastern states produce trucked over here at enormous expense.![]()
Sheeple short sighted consumerholics rejoice!![]()
Colin Barnett - what a great leader.. of sheeple. Can't wait for him to start wearing johdpurs and jack-boots and referring to himself as El Douchebag.
I love WA. And I used to love the fact we are so isolated.
The down side to this isolation however, is that people from WA forget that there is actually the rest of the world out there... and all these bull**** theories about stuff simply are not true. QLD has sunday trading (and late night trading) and it works fine. There are still independants. I still have a Coles and an IGA side-by-side and both still exist (except that IGA actually has to be competitive now).
Across the road from Coles is a growers market, local butcher and fishmonger. All businesses in operation. I shop at all of these places, but when i get home from work at 6pm, Coles is the only one still open so they get my business at that time.
I'm really going to miss it when i get back to WA. WA is so closed minded sometimes.
LOST 73
Dont need it
Been able to live without it for long enough, weekends are for kids sports, footy, cricket or a snorkle for dib dabs if its a lay day. But the biggest reason is its more time for the mrs to spend ya hard earned coin if she has more time to shop.
Initially when extended trading hours were introduced into special tourist precincts, the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce actively promoted this to some fairly big retailers.
One of them was a very large electrical and home store, one of the most vocal proponents of extended trading hours.
The namesake owner was continually saying how WA's retail hours were hampering consumer choice and how people wanted to shop in his stores on Sunday. So they set up shop in the middle of Fremantle (opposite the Town Hall).
Prime position, support from the local business association and they were able to trade 7 days a week. Sounds like a good formula for success and what the owner wanted.
They are no longer there, closed shop as they said there was not enough trade.
